- Copy the HTML file in Manage Files
- Go to Course Admin → Manage Files and locate the HTML file you want to reuse.
Click the arrow next to the filename and select Copy.
Click Paste in the top toolbar to create a separate copy.
- Give the copied file a unique filename, keeping the .html extension.
- Add the copied file to Content
- Return to Content and open the relevant unit.
Select Add Existing → More → Course file.
Select the copied file and confirm.
- Edit and verify independence
- Edit the newly added page.
- Verify that the original page remains unchanged.
Note: Existing Content items that reference the shared file are not automatically updated. Use the newly added Content item to edit the independent copy.
- Understand why this occurs
- Separate Content items may reference the same HTML file in Manage Files.
- Editing one item changes the content for all items referencing that file.
- Changing a Content item’s title or moving it does not create a new file.
- Steps to reproduce the issue
- Create an HTML page in a course and add it to a Content module.
- Export the module using Import/Export/Copy Components.
- Import the exported package back into the same course, keeping the original HTML filename and file location.
- Verify that both the original and imported Content items are present.
- Edit the HTML content through one of the items and save.
- Open the other item. The same changes appear there because both items reference the same underlying HTML file.
Known issue - Copied HTML pages
