Why a migration?
The media content of Saxion is stored in the program Kaltura. Currently, the media content is stored on a server located in the USA. In order to comply with GDPR legislation, we will migrate the current data to a server located in a member state of the European Economic Area (EEA). The migration of the data will be automatic for the most part. The familiar functionality of the application will be maintained, along with a number of valuable improvements:
Video.saxion.nl becomes Media.saxion.nl
After 12 years, we say goodbye to a familiar name. Since its launch in 2013, Video.saxion.nl has served as the platform for sharing and viewing videos within Saxion. However, much has changed in recent years. The way we use media in education and research has greatly expanded. In addition to videos, podcast episodes, images, and even virtual productions are now being uploaded. The platform has long since gone from being just a video platform to becoming a versatile place for all kinds of media. To better reflect this development, the platform's name is changing. As of July 21, 2025, video.saxion.nl has officially become media.saxion.nl. Existing functionalities remain the same, only the name now better reflects the versatility of the content. Have you shared media on other sites in the past? Read here what you can do.
New look and feel
With the transition to media.saxion.nl, we are also introducing an updated look and feel. Thanks to the activation of the theming module in Kaltura, the platform will have a more modern look and feel that is better suited to this day and age.
What to expect?
The buttons, colors, and general design have been refreshed and provide a more user-friendly and contemporary experience. Moreover, as a user, you now have more control over how the platform looks: you can choose between a light mode or a dark mode, depending on your personal preference or work environment.

Improved search module
Searching for the right video, podcast or other media file has now become a lot easier and faster. With the introduction of the updated search module on media.saxion.nl, you can now find what you are looking for in a much more targeted way.
Thanks to the new global search function, you get an overview of results from videos, titles, descriptions, chapters, subtitles and even metadata. That means: fewer clicks, faster to the right content.
Some helpful improvements:
- Search within videos. Instantly find the moment in a video where your keyword appears.
- OCR functionality. Thanks to Optical Character Recognition, the system can now also recognize text that is visible on screen, such as in slides or screen shots. This recognized text is included in the search results.
- Filters. Limit your search results by type, owner or date.
- Faster & smarter. Search results are better sorted by relevance.

With this update, using media.saxion.nl will not only be more modern, but also much more efficient.

Upload media in bulk
Good news! From now on, it is possible to upload media in bulk on media.saxion.nl. Whereas previously you had to add files one by one, you can now easily upload multiple videos, audio clips or other media files at once. This not only saves you time, but also makes the management of larger media collections a lot more efficient, which is ideal for teachers who want to upload multiple lectures or project groups working together on media, for example.
The bulk upload is simple: you select multiple files from your computer and upload them all at once via Kaltura's familiar upload environment.
Note that while uploading, you can still add metadata for each file, such as a title or description. This new feature makes using media.saxion.nl a little faster and more user-friendly.
