Notifications are the email notifications you receive of updates in a course. It is therefore not about the alerts in Brightspace itself (which are displayed with an orange dot in the minibar). You can switch on and off for which courses and for which course components you receive notifications by e-mail.
Please note that settings under Notifications apply to all courses you are enrolled in.
Instructors will communicate the most important announcements related to their course via Announcements. We therefore advise students to at least set up that you want to receive an e-mail of changed or newly created Announcements.
Turning notifications on and off.
- Click on your name or your photo in the minibar.
- Click on Notifications.
3. Under Contact Methods you will find the e-mail address on which you will receive notifications. Brightspace automatically uses your @student.saxion.nl e-mail address, because it is linked to your Brightspace account. You cannot change this.
4. Under Summary of Activity, select whether you want to receive a summary of notifications from all courses on a daily (Daily) or weekly (Weekly) basis. If so, you can set a time when you will receive the summary. If you do not set this, you will automatically receive the email at 0:00 AM.
5. Under Instant Notifications, tick which activities you want to receive notifications from. This applies to all courses, unless you exclude courses under Exclude Some Courses.
When you are a new user of Brightspace, notifications for new Announcements are enabled by default. You can turn this off yourself by removing the check marks in the menu above.
Mail from Brightspace is sent to the @student.saxion.nl address by default, as lecturers are expected to communicate with students via that email address.
6. Under Customize Notifications, check whether you want to receive grades from Grades and whether you want to receive notifications of future courses.
7. Under Exclude Some Courses, select which courses you do not want to receive notifications for. Click on Manage course exclusions and click on the cross behind the name of the course(s) for which you do not want to receive notifications. Click Exclude All Courses to not receive notifications from any course (also useful if you have many courses and only want to receive notifications from one or a few courses). If you previously turned off a course's notifications and now want to turn them back on, find the name of the course and click the restart-notifications icon. Click Restore excluded courses to reactivate notifications for all courses.
8. Click Save to save your settings.
