This article contains the following sections:
Lecturers have the possibility to grade quizzes, assignments and discussions in Brightspace. Additionally, they can grade offline assessments in Brightspace, such as a presentation. Grades can always be found in Bison, but some lecturers might publish the grades in Brightspace as well.
Bison is leading for grades. If there is a discrepancy between the grades in Brightspace and Bison, then the grade in Bison is leading. If you believe that the grade in Bison is incorrect, then please contact your lecturer.
Grades homepage
Click on Grades in the navigationbar of the course. This will lead you to the Grades homepage.
In Grades, you can find all assessments that the lecturer has added in Brightspace. Lecturers decide which assignments they grade in Brightspace, what they grade outside of Brightspace, and whether they add the grades to Brightspace or whether they will only add the grades to Bison. Additionally, lecturers can decide which information is shown per assignment. The following options exist:
- Under Grade Item, you can find the parts (assignments, quizzes, discussions) that a lecturer can grade in Brightspace.
- Under Points, you can see how many points you have received out of the maximum possible amount.
- Under Weighted Average, you can see the weight a part has in the final grade or category. This is only visible if the lecturer has enabled this setting.
- Under Grade, you can see the symbol that fits your achieved score. For example, this can be a letter (A+,A,B,C,D,F), a number (1-10), or a textual assessment (failed, sufficient, good).
- Under Comments and Assessments, you can see feedback if a lecturer has provided this to you. It could be feedback that's related to the assignment, but it could also be a general message (for example, a thank-you message for participation).
- It is possible that you see a graph symbol behind the grade. If you click on this icon, you can see the Class Average and/or the Grade Distribution. Note: The lecturer can change these settings per grade. If you do not see the icon, then the lecturer has not made this function available for that particular grade item.
The score for a specific part can often be seen in the activity itself.
- Navigate via Course Tools to Assignments, Quizzes or Discussions.
- Select the desired graded item.
- You can now see the score and/or feedback that the lecturer has given.
Class Average and Grade Distribution
If you see the graph icon behind a grade item, it means that you can see the Class Average and/or Grade Distribution.
- Click on the graph icon. A new window will appear.
- The Class Average is the average score that has been achieved in one assignment or across all assignments (if the graphs for the entire category is visible to you).
- The Grade Distribution shows how the scores are distributed across students that have handed-in the assignment. The vertical axis shows the amount of students with that particular grade. The horizontal axis shows the achieved scores.
