Kaltura video editing tools

Aangepast op

This article consists of the following parts:

In Kaltura, you can edit your own videos (this is not possible for videos that come from, for instance, YouTube). You can do this in the Video Editor. You can cut the start and/or the end of a video, or select part of the video to make a separate clip.

  1. Navigate to My Media in the navigationbar of Brightspace.
  2. Click on My Media.
  • Click on the pencil icon (Edit) of the video you would like to edit.
  • Click on Launch Editor. You will go the the Video Editor.
  1. Using the triangle, you can start or pause a video. With the arrows you can jump back and forward to the beginning or the end of the video.
  2. The Real-Time Marker shows where you are in the video. You can scroll through the video by moving the marker.
  3. In the Real-Time input field you can see where you are in the video. When you enter to which second in the video you would like to jump, it will do so automatically. The Real-Time Marker will move as well.
  4. At the top right you can see various options (from the right to the left):
    • You can zoom in or out of the timeline by moving the dot.
    • With Select Audio you can select whether you want to see the audiograph in the timeline.
    • With the arrows you can remove your previous action.
    • With Reset you can remove all of your changes.
  5. At the beginning and the end of the video, you see yellow bars that can be dragged across the timeline to select a range.
  6. Above the Real-Time Marker you have the following options:
    • The bin icon (top left): with Delete you can delete selected parts of the video.
    • The line icon (top right): you can make a video fade in or out at the beginning or the end of the video or selected fragment.
    • The scissor icon (bottom left): you can cut a video, after which you can trim, delete or fade parts separately.
    • Brackets (bottom right): you can make the yellow bar jump to this point on the timeline.

Trimming a video

When trimming a video, you cut the end or the beginning of the video.

  • First, select the range that you would like to trim. You can do this in the following ways:
    • Drag the yellow bars to the desired end or beginning of the video (for example: if you would like to cut off the final 20 seconds of a video, then you should move the bar on the right 20 seconds to the left).
    • You can fill out the time in the Real-Time Input field at which you would like to have your realtime marker. The advantage is that this allows you to move the marker very precisely. Drag the yellow bar from the beginning to the place of the realtime marker.
    • Click the moment in the timeline where the video should start or end. The Real-time Marker will then jump along automatically. Do not forget to drag the yellow bars to the real time marker.
    • Play the video and pause at the desired time. The marker will move along automatically. Drag the yellow bar from either the end or the beginning to the real-time marker.
  • Once the desired range has been selected or you have removed/cut parts of the video, you are done editing. Press Save or Save a Copy. It is possible to remove several fragments.

In the Video Editor, Kaltura doe snot automatically save a copy. Press Save if you do not need the original video anymore. If you might still need this, you should select Save a Copy to save the edited video. In this way, the original video stays unchanged in your My Media page. You have made a clip of your video.

Making a clip

If you want to make a clip from your video to use separately, you can make a clip.

  • First, select the range of which you would like to have a separate clip (see above).
  • Once you are done, select Save a Copy.
