• enrich metadata and search options: one can search in the subtitles

A transcription is a word-for-word elaboration of what is said in the video/audio file. A transcription can enhance and enrich the learning process, one can namely:

• use a transcription for qualitative research where the content of the speakers needs to be analyzed
• download a transcript and edit it in other programs
• not only watch a video but also read the transcript under the video

1. Go to My Media in brightspace.saxion.nl or video.saxion.nl
2. Open the desired video and click below the video on the Actions button followed by Caption & Enrich

3. Choose the desired method of translation at Service: *Machine or **Professional or ***Machine English Translation
4. Choose the source language under Source Media Language
5. Add instructions if required for a Professional request
6. Click on Submit

Automatically generated subtitles can be requested for videos in the following languages: Dutch, English, German and Mandarin Chinese. The appearance of the subtitles in the video after the request takes on average 5x the duration of the video. Depending on the audio quality and the pronunciation of the speaker, the accuracy of the subtitles is around 90 percent on average. After the subtitles have been delivered, the requester or co-editor can still edit them manually in an existing editor.

Professional subtitles can be requested for videos in the following languages: Dutch, English and German. The appearance of subtitles in the video after approval takes an average of 4 days. The request will be approved if it meets the criteria for professional subtitling. The applicant will receive a message about this or possibly a request for additional information.

With this option it is possible to translate the already existing source language into an English subtitle. The appearance of the English subtitles takes on average 5x the duration of the video.

• Leave the Service on Machine and under Feature choose: Translation
• Under Target Translation language, choose: English
• Click on Submit
• You will now be asked if you want to Resubmit the caption request: do so!

1. Under the video, click the Actions button followed by Edit
2. Click on the Captions tab followed by Edit Captions

3. Change the captions if desired.
4. Click Save to save the changes followed by Yes.
5. Click Back at the top right.
6. The subtitles will now appear in the video

• Click the CC icon in the player to turn subtitles on or off.
• Click the gear icon to change the language if multiple captions are present

• Click on the transcript icon at the top right of the player

• Download the script by clicking on the three dots at the top right and choose 'Download current transcript'
