Advice for resits in Brightspace
When using resits in the same course environment, the advice is to create a separate point of submission for the resit. This is because in the point of submission it will not be clear which submissions are the first attempt and which the second when giving feedback. This can have big consequences.
It is also possible to let the resits take place in a new Brightspace course for a new quartile, semester, or academic year. In this case, you will not have to do anything and this manual is not applicable.
Creating resits
The original assignment can be copied to create a resit with the same settings as the first chance.
You can read here how to make an Assignment
- Go to Course Tools > Assignments in the navigation bar of your course.
- Click on the arrow next to the assignment.
- Click on Copy Assignment.

- Give the resit a clear name.
- Change the maximum amount of points. This will be the same as the first chance. The assignments will be placed directly into the Gradebook.
- Click on Save & Close.

Change Gradebook settings for grade items
If you would like to have an automatic calculation of the final grade, in which the resit is taken into account, you have to set up the Gradebook to do so. For example, by using a Formula Calculated grade.
Ensure that you have gone through the Setup Wizard. Then, make a suitable Formula in the Calculated Grade column.
