In this article you can read how you can give an assessment to an assignment. Would you like more information about grading and the possibilities you have? Please see this item.
Once the rubric has been created and linked to an assignment or discussion, you can grade students based on the rubric.
Assess an assignment with a rubric
- Click on Grades in the navigation bar of the course.

- Go to the column of the assignment you want to grade.
- Open one of the submissions by clicking on it (the icon with a document)

The following window will appear.
- As can be seen, a rubric has been linked to the assignment. Additionally, it is visible that it has not been scored yet (not scored).
- On the left side of the window, click on the document you want to assess.

- As soon as you click on the name of the rubric, it will open on the right side of your screen. From there, you can assess the submission. You can also press the diagonal arrow in the top-right corner to open the rubric in a new window.

The rubric in the new window will look as follows:

- Assess the submission by clicking on the accompanying level per criterion.
- You can add feedback per criterion.
- If there are multiple columns in the Overall Score, the column that matches the total number of points scored in the rubric is automatically selected.
- This is for your information only. It is possible to click another score, but this does not affect the score.
- Therefore, the Overall Score often consists of only one column with a - in it or a general text, such as "see Grades.
- Optionally, you can overwrite the Total Score by typing another score after Total. In principle, we do not recommend this, because the criteria with associated scores are carefully designed.
- If you have completed the rubric in a separate window, click Close when you have finished filling it in. The rubric is saved in the meantime.
The pop-up screen is movable and adjustable. In this way, you can see the assignment, the grade, and the rubric always at the same time.
- When you have finished an assessment, you will see a check mark appear in the rubric icon.
- Enter Overall Feedback, if applicable.
- The Overall Grade field shows the score earned. This number is relative to the maximum number of points entered when the Assignment was created.
- The Overall Grade can also be overwritten. This is done, for example, if the rubric includes conditional requirements and the student has not met the requirements.
- At the bottom, click Save Draft to save the assessment. It will not be visible to the student at this time.
- To make the score visible, click Publish. This score is also transferred to Grades. Depending on the settings of the corresponding Grade Item the score will be converted to, for example, a grade.
- You can also publish all scores at once by clicking Back to Submissions in the top left corner, selecting all students and clicking Publish Feedback.

Information about (completed) Rubrics
When Rubrics are collapsed in the Evaluation Experience, it is possible to see whether a Rubric has been completed, partially completed and what score has been achieved.
- If a Rubric has not yet been scored, it will be marked as Not Scored.
- When a Rubric is partially graded, the provisional score will be shown and the number of criteria that have not yet been graded
- A fully graded Rubric will show the score and the “Level” achieved.
