While setting up your course, you can view and walk through it as if you were a student. This allows you to test whether everything is working properly and/or you are happy with the way you have designed your course. To see the student view of your course, use the View as learner feature. To experience the course from a student perspective, use a dummy student: a fictional student you can add to your course. You can then walk through your course as this dummy student.
- Unlike regular students, future and inactive courses do show when you view your course as a dummy student. This way, teachers can use dummy students while building the course (often before the start date or while it is inactive).
- For testing Notifications, you cannot use dummy students because they have a no-reply email address.
Using a Dummy student
Before you can use a dummy student, you must add it to your course. You do this in the following way:
- In your course, go to Classlist
- Click on Add Participants
- Choose Add existing users
- Now under Add Existing Users, search for Dummy
- You will now see a list of all Dummy students, add only the dummy student belonging to your academy (the academy is added to the last name of the Dummy student)
- Note! It is important that the Dummy student is added with the role Dummy Student.
- Then click on Enrol Selected Users
- Again, go to Classlist
- Click on the All tab
- Now click the drop-down arrow next to the dummy student and click Impersonate.
- You will see the following message:
- Click Yes.
You now log in as a dummy student. You will see this also at the top right of your screen. You can now do everything a real student can do, such as submitting assignments and signing up for groups. As a teacher, you can add the dummy student to groups and sections to test release conditions.
How to stop impersonating a dummy student
- Click on the dummy student's name in the upper right corner of the minibar.
- Click on the cross.
Unenrolling a dummy student from the course
A limited number of dummy students are available per school. Therefore, please have the dummy student removed from your course as soon as you no longer need it.
