In this article you will find out what copyrighted material is and how you should post it in Brightspace.
When you use texts, text fragments or images for teaching, you should be aware of the requirements with regard to copyright. In Brightspace, all texts and text excerpts from third parties are considered copyrighted material. It is possible to use this in education without asking permission from the author. This follows from the Copyright Act and is referred to as the education exception. However, the university of applied sciences must pay the copyright holders via the UvO foundation for this use. To save costs, links should therefore be made as much as possible to (Open access) material.
For further information, visit the Copyright for Teachers web page.
According to the new regulation, you may copy a maximum of 50 pages from a source (a maximum of 25% of the entire source). However, you may not use the same quote or a different part of the source in another module, unless the total does not exceed 50 pages, max 25% of the whole.
Within a cluster of study programmes, such as an academy, a maximum of 50 pages may be copied from a source (a maximum of 25% of the entire source). Otherwise, it counts as multiple copy, for which permission must be obtained and additional costs will be charged. If the total is no more than 50 pages of 25% of the entire resource, don't worry.
If you want to use more than 50 pages from a source for your class or course, please contact the AIP.
Please note: acknowledgment is mandatory for all reprints, regardless of how many pages are used.
Send your question to the AIP: [email protected] or Cynthia Halfwerk: [email protected]. Cynthia can also be reached on +31 6 209 157 68. In addition, you can of course always approach the account manager of your academy for the Saxion Library.
