Sometimes you want to check an assignment for plagiarism without the student handing in the assignment themselves. Turnitin has a Quick Submit function. This is not used by Saxion because it is very cumbersome. The article below explains how you can check a product for overlap with other works through your own workshop.
Step 1: Go to your own workplace, create an assignment and set up Turnitin.
- Search for your own name in the Course widget and click on your workshop
- Create an assignment, see how to do that in this manual.
- Set plagiarism checks for the assignment, see this manual.
- Click More Options
- Under Submission settings, choose the option Do not store the submitted papers. This is to prevent a high overlap if the student hands in the product later.
- Under Similarity Report, select the option: Generate reports immediately.
Click Save
Step 2: Submit the product as a Dummy student
Open the course as a Dummy student, you can read how to do that in this manual.
Submit the file as a Dummy Student: Click on Course Tools > Assignments and click on the assignment you just created.
Leave the course as a Dummy student by clicking on the cross at the top right.
Step 3: Assess the plagiarism score and the similarity report
- Go to Grades and find the Dummy Student who has submitted something.
- Click on the icon of the submitted work.
Rate the plagiarism score by clicking on the percentage. You can read how to interpret the similarity report here.
Step 4: Remove the submission
It is preferable to delete the document after you have checked it. This is because a dummy account is a generic account that anyone can use. You can read here how to delete a submission attempt from a (dummy) student.
